YOU MIGHT REMEMBER comedian Jen Kirkman. Not only is she a stand-up stand-up (sorry), she also caused a bit of a stir when she played the Vodafone comedy festival in 2014 and called Dubliners a bunch of c**nts.
She appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and it seems like the incident is still on her mind.
Conan asked:
Something went a little awry when you performed in Dublin, which I found a little surprising, in such a lovely country. What happened?
She explained that she didn’t quite get on with us:
Well I’m not Irish, but I’m from Boston, and I hang out with Boston Irish people, so I thought I’m kinda like that.
This is in Dublin, at a Dublin festival that doesn’t represent the Dublin people. These are meatheads that come and are like BEER and don’t know what they’re seeing.
Kirkman goes on to explain that people were using the venue to have chats and reunions and booed when she was announced as American.
There were Friends reruns in on the hotels, oh so you don’t like Americans unless it’s Rachel, Ross, and Chandler?
I was telling jokes about divorce, this, I assume Catholic woman in the front shouted, ‘you shoulda made it work’. She wasn’t playful, I couldn’t play with her.
Then she explained THAT tweet. It all began when she went to the pub with the festival organiser and showed the barman some hate she was getting on Twitter after the show.
It was like you suck, go die, people hated me.
The bartender then said, ah everyone in Dublin is a bunch of drunk c**ts, and said you should tweet that they’ll love it.
So she did:
She then went to bed drunk and forgot about the tweet.
My show sold out the next day. I apologised to them, it was very Catholic, I did confession.
So her experience of Dublin wasn’t ALL bad.
I later stole a doughnut and the cop didn’t care, this is kinda cool country.
