THE TOMMY TIERNAN Show debuted at the start of January, winning rave reviews in the process.
And the fourth episode on RTÉ One last night was more of the same.
The three guests featured were author Lisa McInerney, Irish soccer legend John Aldridge, and activist/actor John Connors.
And it was Tommy’s chat with Connors that had people glued to their screens – like when he explained how margarine was the worst habit of settled people in the eyes of the Travellers
If you missed @johnconnors1990 talking about margarine, you have to watch it back! #TommyTiernanShow pic.twitter.com/kGFRXIbBpY

They talked about the serious issues facing the Travelling community in Ireland, and the Love/Hate actor touched on Tommy’s own comedy that’s dealt with the topic in the past:
“I’m a big comedy fan and I think there are very few bounds for comedy – you should be allowed go wherever you want as long as it’s not malicious”
And Tommy was on hand with his impressions as well
In a wide-ranging interview, Connors spoke about what the word Traveller means to him:
“The word Traveller, that doesn’t do us justice at all as a culture of people. We’re not Travellers anywhere, we’re Minkiers - that’s what our language is and there’s no translation for that, other than that’s who we are.”
People were full of praise for both of them
And Connors closed out the segment with a traditional song by Pecker Dunne – with no musical accompaniment whatsoever
Which you can watch on the RTÉ Player.
It was spellbinding stuff
And Tommy’s reaction to seeing one of his heroes John Aldridge was something else too
