Kate Winslet has finally accepted responsibility for Jack's death in Titanic

BUT IT’S TOO LATE, KATE.

IN 1997, THE world went bananas for James Cameron’s Titanic, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as lovers who meet on the ill-fated liner.

Then Rose uttered these words, and broke just about everybody’s hearts:

But she did let go, and Titanic fans never forgave Rose for not making room for Jack on her door-cum-life raft.

Now, almost 20 years after the film’s release, Kate Winslet has admitted that yeah, maybe Jack could have fit on the board.

On Jimmy Kimmel last night, Winslet discussed Titanic fans’ long and intense obsession with the scene, saying:

I agree, I think he could have actually fitted on that bit of door. Can you actually believe it that people get so overwhelmed by the Jack and Rose thing?

At last! VINDICATION for Jack fans the world over. But maybe not…

Back in 2012, the US TV show Mythbusters dedicated an episode to the claims, and found that if Rose had attached her lifejacket to the raft, Jack could have safely climbed on board.

However, they also found that without this bit of forward thinking, Jack and Rose’s combined weight would have caused the door to sink into the sea.

Director James Cameron’s thoughts on the whole enterprise were not what you might have hoped:

The script says Jack died. He has to die. So maybe we screwed up and the board should have been a tiny little bit smaller, but the dude’s going down.

Gee, thanks, James. Break our hearts some more, why don’t you.
