Katy Perry dropped a new song overnight and everyone's convinced it's a Taylor Swift diss track
A FEW HOURS ago, Katy Perry released her latest single, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj called Swish Swish.
It’s a boppy number produced by Duke Dumont, but what’s got people really talking is the lyrics.
Many are interpreting the lyrics to be a not-so-sly dig at Katy Perry’s avowed enemy Taylor Swift. (Katy and Taylor are arch nemeses and it’s widely accepted that Taylor Swift’s hit single Bad Blood was written about Katy Perry.)
Here are the offending lyrics.
The ‘receipts’ line is quite possibly a reference to Kim Kardashian’s now-legendary Snapchat takedown of Taylor Swift.
There’s also a lyric that goes a little something like, “Don’t need opinions/From a shellfish or a sheep”
Where have we heard the sheep reference before? *strokes chin*
It’s also worth pointing out that Nicki Minaj has had her run-ins with Taylor Swift in the past
Who can forget the VMA drama of 2015?
Furthermore, guess who Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj are set to collaborate with next?
Oh, just a gentleman named Calvin Harris. You know the one who dated Taylor Swift?
Billboard Billboard
Damn.
Following the release of Swish Swish, Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose weighed in and threw shade at Katy Perry.
Ruby Rose is a longtime member of Taylor Swift’s squad and always among the first to defend her. Last night was no different with Rose immediately mocking Katy Perry’s “purposeful pop” mission statement.

And criticised Perry for seemingly abandoning her political activism and going “low” with a Taylor diss track.

In a reply to a fan, she also said the track was a “mess” with the exception of Nicki Minaj’s verse.
CAN’T WE ALL JUST GO BACK TO BEING FRIENDS LIKE WE USED TO BE?
