LAST WEEKEND, FRANCIE Boylan revealed that he had found *the* Kevin from Galway – the 11-year-old boy who found internet fame thanks to his iconic performance on What’s Snots back in 2004.
We all remember that fateful few minutes on The Den:
On Sunday, Boylan said that he had found Kevin – and promised a video and interview for the world “soon.”
Well, today he has delivered.
Francie sat down with grown up Kevin for a big interview that tells the real story behind the What’s Snots? quiz
Finally, the pair were reunited
Kevin is now 24 and still living in Galway
Speaking on Francie’s Ocean FM show, Kevin told the story of how he got the phone call on the morning of April 1, 2004 that he’d be on RTÉ later that afternoon when he got home from school
In a brilliant editorial call, the producers started playing specific clips back to Kevin to jog his memory. Like, when he was asked would he like to ask a question to Snots and responded with:
“Where did you get your shades?”
Francie asked him where all the confusion came from. Had he never seen What’s Snots? before?
“I was actually genuinely watching the game for weeks, that’s the worst part of it!”
But Kevin did have some answers as to why he didn’t seem to be catching on too quickly:
“The story behind the thing was: there was one household phone on the wall and one portable phone. The wall is here, the television is here – so the sitting room is right behind it”
Kevin continued:
“The house phone was broke – you could hear some things, but it would go in and out. Then I was trying to hear what ye were saying and I couldn’t hear it properly on that phone – and the portable phone was missing”
“I came up with this genius idea where I turned up the telly pure loud. There was a buzz of noise and you couldn’t make out from the telly what you were saying and I was trying to wedge the phone into my ear to try and hear it properly.”
Ah.
Then the moment where he “had to go do something”?
“That one minute where I said hold on, that was the minute I was trying to take to run the whole house upside down looking for the phone.”
The poor craytur.
Finally, after all these years, we have answers to the pressing questions from the infamous What’s Snots? intereview.
The 12 minute interview is worth watching in full because it’s an absolute joy:
Well played, lads.
