KILLARNEY FESTIVAL OF Music and Food due to take place this weekend has been cancelled.

Amidst much confusion, organisers have announced that the event won’t be going ahead this weekend at Killarney Racecourse due to “unforeseen circumstances beyond their control”.

A spokeswomen for the festival said that they did everything in their power to keep the festival in motion, and are “devastated” that it has been cancelled.

We would like to extend our sincere apologies to all the festival goers who were planning to attend the event in Killarney and we would like to thank all the local businesses and statutory agencies for their help and support.

Headline acts included Duran Duran, Texas and Burt Bacharach. Aside from music, the festival also includes comedy and a food village featuring chefs such as Derry Clarke and Kevin Thorton.

However, all may not be lost. Promoters are currently in discussions with some of the acts about performing at alternative venues in Killarney over the weekend, but advise ticket holders to head to Ticketmaster for refunds.

The news comes after confusion surrounding the fate of the festival after it was moved to a smaller venue from Killarney House Demense to Killarney Racecourse which has a minimum of 6,000 capacity, with reports of poor ticket sales.

Over 15,000 attended the festival last year, but the Irish Examiner reports the Kerry County Council was told attendance would be under 5,000 per day.

Ticket holders were not happy with the confusion, with many incurring accommodation and travel costs.

The festival’s Facebook is a site of disappointment

The festival came under fire earlier in the year for an email sent to unsigned artists, which resulted in them shutting down a whole stage. The email stated that unsigned acts would be selected to play on the Actbaker stage provided they sold at least 50 tickets, the more they sold the higher they’d go on stage.
