WHEN THE NEWS of legendary musician Prince’s death broke yesterday evening, there was only one thing to do.
Party in his honour.
Blogger Nialler9 cobbled together Prince tribute version of his popular Lumo club in Bar Tengu in Dublin where fans could flock to mourn the legend.
The crowd sang along, and the place was doused in purple
It’s what he would’ve wanted…
DJ Tim O’Donovan played last night, and wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook, telling DailyEdge.ie it was “the best wake of a stranger” he’s ever been to.
He wrote:
Thank you for such a beautiful night. Never have I danced, hugged and cried with so many strangers as I did earlier in Tengu.
We shared stories and memories of a man we never met but who meant so much to us. He marked so many moments, big and small, in our lives. Moments you didn’t even realize were important until that little memory was jogged into life again by a handclap, a bassline, a drum beat, a guitar lick, a lyric, a scream.
Thank you so much for the funk, soul, melody, sex, humour and passion. Goodnight sweet Prince.
We hear one woman in particular was going around with purple glitter and lipstick painting anyone she could get her hands on, along with makeup artist Lorcan who was painting the masses.
The night will remain in the hearts, and on the clothes, of all attendees for a long time to come
For anyone who still wants to party in tribute, TXFM DJ Kelly-Anne Byrne will be playing Prince all night at her Burnin Up gig at the Grand Social in Dublin tonight.
