Man claims to have gone 60 years without bathing

He’s gone back to basics.

AN IRANIAN MAN that claims to have not bathed in 60 years has apparently broken a record for his efforts.

The Islamic Republic News Agency and the Tehran Times both report that the man, Amou Haji, last washed himself when he was just 20 years old.

See more of the unbelievable pictures here.

The reasoning behind the rather extreme lifestyle choice is that he believes that clean skin only brings on illness. The Times says he is a recluse living in the countryside after ‘emotional setbacks’ in his youth.

But his controversial lifestyle doesn’t end there. Haji also eats rotten meat, drinks dirty water and smokes a pipe filled with animal feces, according to the newspaper.

His home is a “hole in the ground resembling a grave” and he also has an open brick shack built by “those who felt sorry for him”.

The Tehran Times, however, feel he’s better off than most.

His roof is the starred sky, his little shack is paid in full without worrying about monthly mortgages, his pillow and quilt is the soft cushion of the earth embracing him every time.

Haji surely trumps the man found in 2011 in India. Kailash Singh is said to have gone 38 years without washing and was considered the world’s smelliest man despite Guinness refusing to award anyone in the category.
