Guy takes the ultimate selfie atop Brazil's Christ The Redeemer statue

Your mirror selfies are irrelevant.

SELFIES ARE JUST getting ridiculous now, but this one is undeniably impressive.

Travel blogger and photographer Lee Thompson took the first ever selfie with the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janerio, and the results are spectacular.

We feel a bit queasy, but impressed. Queasy-impressed.

Thompson wrote on his website that he took the selfie while covering World Cup preparations in Rio, after getting special permission from the Brazil tourism board.

The opportunity arose to take the world’s first (and so far only) selfie with Jesus, I couldn’t resist.

WHO COULD?

It took Thompson and his colleague Oliver Harvey 20 minutes to climb up the 98 feet.

With the assistance of two high-wire workmen, (and armed with Go Pro cameras) we entered through scaffolding mounted on the feet and crawled in circles up 12 flights of rickety stairs that seemed to get narrower with every step.

Wowza.

As I popped my head out of the hole in Jesus’ crown, I was in total and utter awe as my eyes met with a vast panorama that quite literally took my breath away. Talk about a religious experience! I’ve never been afraid of heights or tight spaces, but experiencing acrophobia, claustrophobia and profound awe at the same time was something truly remarkable.
