A CAR CRASH VICTIM woke from a coma convinced he was actor Matthew McConaughey and speaking perfect French – despite the fact he was less than fluent at school.
Rory Curtis from Redditch, Worcestershire, suffered a serious brain injury after his van flipped over on a motorway back in August 2012.
The 25-year-old former footballer was put into an induced coma for six days while doctors worked to save him – and when he woke up, he began speaking to nurses in French.
He told the Mail Online:
I wasn’t really that good it at school, so I don’t know how my brain has managed to do what it has. I don’t know how I know it – I just do.
Curtis said he was also convinced he was Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, for a little while:
When I went to the toilet and looked in the mirror I was shocked because I didn’t look like him, I didn’t know what I was looking at… At times I was in hospital thinking, “I can’t wait to get out of here and back to filming movies.
Curtis was treated with an experimental drug and learned to walk again in two months – now, he is working as a barber and while he doesn’t believe he’s Matthew McConaughey, he still speaks perfect French. The human brain is a strange and wonderful thing.
