Mariah Carey had a lipsync malfunction of epic proportions in Times Square last night

Making Milli Vanilli look like amateurs.

IF YOU’VE STRUGGLED to sing along with Mariah Carey songs in the past, you can now take solace in the knowledge that Mariah Carey also apparently can’t sing along to Mariah Carey songs.

Last night, the pop icon was performing on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, a concert broadcast live from Times Square, when she had a lipsync meltdown of epic proportions.

Carey was attempting to perform her 1991 hit Emotions when she realised there was no vocal track for her to lipsync over.

Here’s the second she realises there’s no backing track. Look at the impatience in her eyes. That hand on the hip.

Instead of attempting to sing, she just sort of walked around the stage and dropped some classic Mariah one-liners.

We’re missing some of this vocal, but it is what it is.
It went to number one and that’s what it is, okay.
I’m just gonna let the audience sing, okay.

And it just went on and on and on as the cameras panned around Times Square, careful to avoid showing the catastrophe that was taking place on stage.

Look at her! We know she’s lipsyncing, she knows she’s lipsyncing, but she doesn’t give a flying f**k

You have to admire that kind of brazen attitude.

She ended her performance with this sign-off: “It just doesn’t get any better”

A rather appropriate end to the car crash that was 2016.

Rather predictably, the incident is now trending worldwide

With this performance, she’s after putting Milli Vanilli and Ashlee Simpson to shame.

A few hours ago, Mariah Carey tweeted her official response to the incident.

Shit happens.
Here’s to making more headlines in 2017.

Unreal.
