Here's the large mashed potato spill that caused traffic chaos on a UK road

YESTERDAY, OFFICERS of the North Yorkshire Police were called to an incident where the road was completely blocked by a lorry’s spilled load of mashed potato.

The police tweeted this photo of the road AFTER most of the delicious carbs had been ploughed away.

And it took them so long to clear up the mash spillage, they had to issue updates on the “Instant Mash situation”.

Update on #A64 Instant Mash situation. Emergency Services are utilising various methods to clear. One lane will be open within the hour

Several methods were tried, including freezing chemicals and high-powered hoses.

Sadly the freezing chemicals are not lifting on the #A64, despite grit and ploughs. The road remains like an ice rink.. High Powered .....

...hoses are being used by fire service but it remains dangerous to road users and is slow going. We will keep you updated with progress

And the potato pile-up caused “extreme tailbacks” in the area.

We have managed to clear one lane on #A64. We are opening this lane up to westbound traffic from Scarborough now, due to extreme tailbacks

All in all, it hasn’t been a good weekend for food transport.
