Mattress Mick has been spotted in Toronto as his documentary opens to rave reviews
Twitter Twitter
BACK IN MARCH, news came through that a documentary on Mattress Mick had been picked up as a selection for the Hot Docs film festival in Toronto. Well, tonight is opening night – and the lads are already making their mark across in Canada.
Mattress Mick himself has been spotted roaming the streets of Toronto today
Documentary maker Colm Quinn has followed Mick and his business partner Paul Kelly around for three years as they took Mattress Mick to national fame around Ireland through stunts, songs and generally having serious craic selling mattresses.
Paul, Mick and Brian (the man inside the mattress) are all in Toronto for the premiere tonight
And Toronto Film Scene got a sneak peak of the film before tonight’s first showing – and have given it two major thumbs up.
They say it has all sorts of hidden depths
The character could be set to go global on the back of it
And TFS have named it “the most unexpected tearjerker of the festival”
Well now. It looks like we have an unexpected hit on our hands here.
Not only has the film been generating buzz around the city, the lads were on a famous Toronto breakfast show talking about it yesterday
The Irish-accented mattress was a bit of a shock to the host:
Indeed.
The posters are up, the festival is ready
Good luck to Mick and the lads. Toronto won’t know what hit it.
