Michael Healy-Rae wants to start a political version of Love Island in the Dáil
SHOCKINGLY MICHAEL HEALY-RAE isn’t the biggest fan of Love Island as he revealed in an Instagram Q and A last night. But that hasn’t stopped him voicing his opinion on the matter down on Spin South West.
Michael was on Fully Charged with Ed and Meghann and revealed that once the premise of the show was explained to him, it gave him an idea.
What if indeed Michael.
Michael decided he was going to play matchmaker for some of his mates in the Dáil akin to the match-maker in John B Keane’s ‘Sadbh’.
Who was first up? None other than Mattie McGrath and Mary Lou McDonald.

Right…
There’s a bit of a Hayley-Eyal vibe coming off these two tbh.
Michael then went on to suggest that Gerry Adams should be paired up with Ruth Coppinger because ‘we can’t forget about Gerry’.

This pairing strikes me more as a Georgia – Sam where Gerry insists that he’s loyal but in the end, he goes off with someone else instead.
Host Meghann then made a rather controversial decision by pairing up Mary-Lou (who is incredibly popular) with none other than former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
[image alt="" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2018/07/bertie-16-296x185.jpg" width="296" height="185" title="" class="alignnone" /end]
Hmmmmm. Somehow I feel that Mary Lou wouldn’t exactly be delighted to be paired up with Bertie. There’s definitely a Kendall – Adam vibe here with Bertie presumably saying ‘Look I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t attracted to the Good Friday Agreement’.
It was then suggested to Michael that he should pair up with current MEP Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan who is probably best known as an advocate of cannabis.

Michael didn’t seem too keen on the idea though.
Some solid pun usage there Michael now.
But who, oh who is the Dr Alex of this whole thing?
Well according to Spin South West it’s none other than current Fianna Fáil leader Michael Martin.

Yep, we totally see it.
Michael would definitely need the same amount of sun-screen as Dr Alex anyway. As well as that, he’d presumably commit to something and then back out immediately proving he didn’t care about it in the first place like the sex education bill.
The best part of the whole segment though had to be when hosts Meghann and Ed managed to get Michael to scream ‘I’VE GOT A TEXT’ down the phone.
If we are going to get this political version of ‘Love Ireland’ then there’s only one man who can commentate on it for us judging by that scream.
When asked why he wasn’t watching the incredibly popular show, Michael replied that he was too busy running clinics and sorting out problems for his constituents.
Presumably, whenever he gets an email from one of his constituents he will scream to himself ‘I’VE GOT AN EMAIL’.
We can dream.
