8 amazing facts that will blow your mind

Honestly, these facts are incredible.

WE’RE ABOUT TO increase your IQ*.

Come with us now on a journey through nature, time and space to find out the most incredible, little-known facts.

(*Oh, okay then. We might really not be able to boost your IQ, but we will definitely help you win some table quizzes, alright?)

1. A land before time

The time difference between when the Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus lived is GREATER than the time difference between when the Tyrannosaurus lived and now.

2. I’m gonna live forever

There is a type of jellyfish that is immortal. The aptly-titled Immortal Jellyfish (or to give it its official name, turritopsis nutricula) can revert back to a polyp stage after maturing – and technically could continue this process forever, never growing old or dying.

3. Anything to be said for another mass?

Christianity is the dominant religion in Antarctica. The icy old place boasts (at least) 8 churches.

4. Big long drink of water

There are more atoms in a cup of water than there are cups of water in the oceans of the world. Yup.

5. Across the universe

There are more galaxies in the universe than grains of sand on Earth. Let that one sink in.

6. Big heart strikes again

A blue whale’s heart is the size of a small car. Some of its arteries are big enough for a human to swim through. (But would you?)

7. Constant vigilance

In the US, the yearly risk of dying from a shark attack is 1 in 250 million. The risk of dying from a vending machine accident is 1 in 112 million. That’s right. A vending machine is roughly twice as lethal as a shark.

8. And finally…

Cleopatra lived closer to the time of the Moon landings than she did to the building of Great Pyramid. (For the curious – the Great Pyramid was build around 2560 BC, Cleo lived from 69 BC to 30 BC, and the Moon Landing was in 1969 AD.)
