ONLINE RETAILER MISSGUIDED has come under fire for selling a crop top with the word “slut” printed on it.
The top, which went on sale for £12 back in October, was widely criticised on social media.
Customers were pretty flabbergasted by the whole thing.
Indeed the brand was accused of engaging in”slut shaming”. (Slut shaming refers to the act of “stigmatising a woman for engaging in behaviour judged to be promiscuous or sexually provocative”.)
Back in October, the brand’s help desk told a fan that the top was inspired by Mean Girls and set to be discontinued after Halloween.
But an article in yesterday’s Daily Mail has reignited the debate on the top and sent it viral.
Missguided has yet to comment on the furore, but it appears the top is no longer for sale.
The online store has now moved on to selling Christmas-themed t-shirts emblazoned with slogans like “Santa’s Bitch” and “Merry Bitchmas Bitches“.
So now.
