Neil Young, Robbie Williams and Bon Jovi... who won the weekend?
IT WAS A bit weekend of music for Ireland with Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi and Neil Young all paying a visit to ply their wares.
There were dubious reports from the Neil Young gig, slightly more promising tales from Bon Jovi at Slane, and general good feeling from Robbie Williams at the Avivia Stadium.
We’ve taken a look around the internet to see what the people are saying, and allocated rock ‘n’ roll points accordingly.
Let’s see how they fare…
Neil Young
Some people had the best night of their lives at Neil Young. Three rock ‘n’ roll points:
And the sun was shining (well, at the start anyway). Gain one rock ‘n’ roll point:
But not everyone was happy. Lose two rock ‘n’ roll points:
And the reviews were not good. Not good at all. Lose three more rock ‘n’ roll points:
Neil Young scores… minus one: A hit with superfans but disappointing for those who fell foul of the sound problems and the non-hits.
Bon Jovi
The Gardaí don’t know who Bon Jovi are. Lose two rock ‘n’ roll points immediately:
Jon Bon Jovi is definitely better looking than Neil Young, and has better rock star hair. Win two rock ‘n’ roll points:
Happy punters. Gain three more rock ‘n’ roll points:
Uh oh. Lukewarm reviews. Lose three points:
Bon Jovi score… zero points: Probably a fair reflection of what appears to have been a mediocre showing. Jon Bon’s hair is still magnificent though.
Robbie Williams
Robbie never lost it: Three rock ‘n’roll points:
It lashed rain, but people didn’t really mind: One rock ‘n’ roll point:
Positive reviews. Three rock ‘n’ roll points:
Someone got engaged. A gagillion rock ‘n’roll points:
Robbie Williams scores… more than a gagillion points: Because someone got engaged, and because he’s still got it
Well there you have it. Who would have thought that Robbie Williams could ever beat Bon Jovi -and more importantly Neil Young – in a rock ‘n’ roll battle*?
Take THAT!
*even if it is a non-scientific, highly flawed, suspiciously scored battle
