HIDDEN IN PERHAPS one of New York’s coolest Irish pubs, this crisp sandwich concoction has to be seen to be believed.
The Late Late in the Lower East Side is an Irish pub with a Late Late Show theme. Yes, really.
Owner James Morrissey told DailyEdge.ie last year that they named the pub after the Late Late Show because of how edgy it is:
Similar to The Late Late Show of the 1960s, which caused nationwide disruption with its forward-thinking topics which were controversial at the time, The Late Late is designed to test the boundaries of the traditional “Irish pub” model which currently exists abroad.
While they cook up the likes of Ballymaloe breakfast burgers, Jameson Honey butter french toast, and Dublin cheddar sticks, it’s the Tayto crisp sambo that’s most impressive.
Check it out.
It costs just over €7 and contains the ‘famous’ Tayto cheese and onion crisps served in a chive brioche bun with pickles, Ballymaloe stout ketchup, and cheddar mayo.
You can even add Applewood smoked bacon for an extra two dollars.
It seems to be going down a treat, even if it’s a bit notiony
The humble sandwich even made New York culture website Gotham‘s Best Things to Eat last June:
With famous ‘Tayto Cheese & Onion’ crisps on a chive brioche bun, Ballymaloe stout relish, and cheddar cheese mayo, this is the ideal drinking snack. It’s crunchy, and eating chips on a bun makes me feel like a kid again.
Yes, one very posh kid
Oh, go on then, we’ll have one for lunch
