This New York Times correction about Cork is truly something else

Ah LADS.

CORKONIANS, IT’S TIME to get out the pitchforks and join Donald Trump in lambasting the New York Times. They have disrespected you.

This 2011 NYT correction is being shared widely on Twitter today:

cork not quark New York Times New York Times

The Vows column last Sunday, about the marriage of Sunny Jacobs and Peter Pringle, misspelled the name of the city in Ireland where Ms Jacobs had a speaking engagement. It is Cork, not Quark.

Quark. Quark.

Like the soft cheese.

Or the Deep Space Nine character.

The correction is from a November 2011 article about the marriage of Sunny Jacobs and Peter Pringle, who met after both served time on death row (she in Florida, he in Portlaoise prison in the 1980s) for murders they did not commit.

An extraordinary story, but the impact has been somewhat lessened by the mix up – for Irish people at least:

We’re sure it won’t happen again, right NYT? *pitchforks glint malevolently*
