8 TV shows you weren't allowed eat your dinner in front of

Closer each day…

TODAY MARKS THE 26th anniversary of the telly wedding of Neighbours’ Scott and Charlene (aka Jason and Kylie).

Early evenings in the eighties and nineties were dominated by the residents of Ramsey Street, Summer Bay, Echo Island and wherever the Littlest Hobo’s travels took him.

In honour of Scott and Charlene’s enduring love, let’s have a look at the TV shows that dominated dinnertime and tried to tempt us away from our Findus Crispy Pancakes.

Neighbours

Still going strong, Neighbours has been an institution of early evening telly since the mid-eighties.

The Australian soap wasn’t broadcast on Irish TV until the mid-noughties so previous to that it was only the lucky divils who had ‘The Channels’ that were able to boast about being fans.

Everyone else watched Home and Away.

California Dreams

“Don’t wake me up, don’t wake me up cos I’m dreaming…”

Moesha

This American sitcom ran from the mid nineties to 2001 and often occupied the 5.30pm/6pm slot on Irish tellies.

Guest stars included Usher, Boyz II Men and Dr Dre. The glamour.

Also Shar Jackson, who played Moesha’s friend Niecey, is Britney Spears’ ex Kevin Federline’s baby mama. Phew!

The Littlest Hobo

“There’s a voice, keeps on calling me… ”

Can you call a little bit faster? My potato waffles are nearly ready!

Home and Away

Also still going strong, Home and Away is an institution of Irish telly.

Do remember when we used to call Marilyn ‘Maz’, when Sally and Milko were best friends, when Travis and Rebecca were loves young dream?

Of course you do.
