Ed Sheeran had to credit the writers of No Scrubs on Shape Of You because they sound so alike

Caught rapid, Ed.

ED SHEERAN’S SHAPE Of You is currently the biggest song in the world and damn near impossible to escape. Seriously, you can’t turn on the radio without hearing Ed Sheeran uttering the phrase, “Put that body on me”. *shudders*

Yes, Shape Of You is a pop earworm, but it turns out that it may have inadvertently borrowed the melody from TLC’s No Scrubs. So much so that Sheeran has had to add three co-writers to the song’s credits.

According to ASCAP, No Scrubs writers Kandi Burruss, Tiny Harris and Kevin Briggs have been added as co-writers alongside Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid.

Kandi Burruss and Tiny Harris were members of 1990s R&B group Xscape.

Burruss has written songs for artists like TLC, Destiny’s Child, Usher and our very own Samantha Mumba. She’s now known as one of the stars of Real Housewives of Atlanta. Harris, meanwhile, has also worked as a songwriter and was married to rapper T.I.

Many fans had noticed a similarity between Shape of You and No Scrubs.

This video demonstrates how they blend into one another.

Burruss and Harris were only delighted to receive credit on the song and thanked Sheeran for allowing them to share in the song’s success.

This is not the first time Sheeran has being accused of copying other artists’ work. He’s currently being sued for Marvin Gaye’s estate for allegedly copying Let’s Get It On.

Now let’s all revisit No Scrubs, shall we?
