The Patrick Kavanagh statue, situated along the Grand Canal on Dublin’s south side has been defaced with what looks like red paint.
The memorial, which was commissioned for Dublin’s Year of Capital Culture in 1991 and crafted by artist John Coll, belongs to Dublin City Council.
A spokesperson for the council told DailyEdge.ie that specialists from Cast Bronze Foundry in Dublin will carry out the necessary cleaning.
