That 'peeled ginger' detail from the new Fifty Shades book? It's actually a real thing

Christian Grey wants to put ginger WHERE?!

THE NEWEST BOOK in the Fifty Shades of Grey series was released on Thursday to a chorus of derisive snorts.

New EL James book released PA WIRE PA WIRE

Grey tells the exact same story as the first book, but from the perspective of the mysterious Christian Grey. Of course, it’s packed to the gills with filth.

Of the many, many WTF lines in the book, this particular fantasy of Christian’s is sticking out for many readers:

An image of her shackled to my bench, peeled gingerroot inserted in her ass so she can’t clench her buttocks, comes to mind, followed by judicious use of a belt or strap.

Peeled what? Put where?

“EL James, are you out of your mind?” – Everyone, basically.

Actually, EL James didn’t think this up – it’s called ‘figging’, and it’s a real BDSM practice.

Sexpert (any chance to use the word ‘sexpert’, us) Alix Fox told BuzzFeed that the oils in the ginger can create a “burning, tingling sensation” that feels good to some people.

It’s a harmless practice, but if you’re interested in trying it out, Fox says it must be approached with caution:

You can’t get rid of the sensation for a long time. Washing won’t work – it’s an essential oil, so the sensation will linger.

The more you know.
