GOING TO THIS year’s Ploughing Championships, but just feel like regular food is too passé for you? Good news! Rentokil are unveiling a pop-up ‘pestaurant’ at the three-day championships serving up edible insects.
Lovely.
Among the treats that will be be on offer?
Well, for those with vanilla tastebuds, there’s plain roasted mealworms, locusts and crickets to be had. Meanwhile, the true “foodies” among you might want to try salt and vinegar mealworms, Mexican spice mealworms or curry mealworms.
There will also be bug lollipops, chocolate-covered bugs and ant candy for punters to sample.
It may not be to everyone’s palate, but the UN does note that over 2 billion of the world’s population supplement their diet with insects, so you know.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sure, they can’t be that bad. Look at this fella horsing into some curry crickets.
Yum.
The edible insects will be served free of charge at the Ploughing Championships, which take place in Stradbally, Co. Laois from September 23rd to 25th.
