THE FACEBOOK MASS event completely took over Irish Facebook this week.
The event page has a massive 186,000 declared attendees, and is constantly flooded with jokes and memes relating to Sunday mass.
Sure it’s top notch bants altogether
But, given the event is now so large, one user decided to put it to work for good
In a post to the event yesterday, one user asked the 132,000 people attending [at the time] to donate two euro to Pieta House via their text line.
The post was liked almost 6,000 times, and people began sharing their donations to encourage others
A spokesperson for Pieta told DailyEdge.ie that more than €5,000 has been donated via people texting PIETA to the 50300 number over the last couple of days, which is “more than usual”.
We had no input into this particular social media campaign, but we can of course only be thankful to everyone who donates to Pieta House.
It is through the unstinting generosity of the Irish public that we are able to offer life-saving counselling to people in suicidal crisis, people who self-harm and those who have been bereaved by suicide.
We may be a nation of messers, but we’re still lovely deep down.
