This Irish guy started a campaign to bring Birds Eye waffles to Australia and it's worked

Audacious stuff.

POTATO WAFFLES ARE a staples of many an Irish kitchen for both young and old.

So, being an Irish emigrant abroad can’t be easy when you have to miss out on such culinary delights.

So Mullingar man living in Australia Brian Nooney started a campaign earlier this month to bring the waffles down under

The Facebook page titled “Please bring Birdseye Potato Waffles to Australia” was set up with that one very specific goal.

It was quite an ambitious mission – but such was the love of waffles in the Irish community, the page quickly grew to nearly 1000 likes.

Then, last week, after a Facebook post on the official Birds Eye Australia page by Brian, they gave his campaign a like

Progress, surely?

Then, Birds Eye Australia posted on the campaign wall with this message

It was a vague post, but it certainly was promising:

Hey Brian, we have some really exciting news!! Can you please contact us with your best phone number?

Then, last night, the page announced the news that Birds Eye waffles were being introduced to Australia

Yes, he had succeeded:

BIG NEWS !!! The rumours are true, Birds Eye Australia are launching Potato Waffles in Australia because of this campaign. It’s a soft launch and they will not be sold everywhere initially. When I find out which stores and areas are getting them I’ll post these up.

Brian told DailyEdge.ie why he started the campaign up:

I do love potato waffles but I also loved them when living at home and survived on them on college. Basically I missed them and thought sure why not set up a campaign, I’m sure I’m not the only one who misses them. I think the Aussies will embrace them as well.

He tells us that they are to be launched in Woolworths soon and a future roll out to Australian supermarket Coles is on the cards as well.

This is a story of how one man’s insatiable desire for potato waffles can overcome all the odds.

Fair play to him.
