LAST WEEK, THIS photo of pre-peeled oranges went massively viral and sparked a debate on the internet.
Now this photo of pre-peeled avocados has captured the internet’s imagination and sparked even more outrage.
The avocados in question were available for sale in Canadian supermarket Sobeys. Customer Christine Kizik shared the photo on Sobeys’ Facebook page, criticising the “wasteful” packaging.
Surprised and disappointed after a friend posted a picture of an avocado for sale at his local Sobeys in Thornhill, ON. It’s been precut, then wrapped in plastic and cardboard. Avocado’s have their own perfect, compostable, wrapping. Adding packaging to an avocado is strange to say the least. This is wasteful and I’m curious about the reasoning for Sobeys stocking avocodo this way? Looking forward to a response. Thank you.
Many agreed with Kizik and asked if they were intended for people too lazy to do it themselves…
Others, meanwhile, pointed out that they could potentially be useful for those with disabilities or medical conditions who are unable to cut and open avocados themselves.
For its part, Sobeys claimed that the avocados were peeled and packaged for customers who “might be new to using avocados” and to preserve the avocado’s freshness.
Whatever will they come up with next, eh?
