AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS of speculation, HBO has officially cast Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch in the second season of True Detective.
Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn were confirmed to take the main roles back in September.
Mean Girls actress Rachel McAdams will star as Ani Bezzerides, a sheriff’s detective whose “uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves”, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Meanwhile Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch will play Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle police officer, who is running from a difficult past and a scandal that “never happened”.
So far, the plot appears to be dramatically different to the first season, centring on the murder of a corrupt businessman. Here’s what we know so far:
- Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, described as a “compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”
- Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when a business partner is murdered.
Also cast is English actress Kelly Reilly, who previously starred in Calvary alongside Brendan Gleeson. She will play the wife of Vince Vaughn’s mobster, a D-list actress and full partner in his shady enterprises.
According to Entertainment Weekly, production has already started for the second season, which HBO hopes to air next summer.
