There is a company in Wicklow currently hiring 150 Ch***tmas elves
TWO WEEKS AGO, it was the opening of the Brown Thomas Christmas store.
Then last week we found out that Dublin City Council is looking for its festive trees.
Today? We were hoping that we’d be putting on our sunglasses and hot pants for Electric Picnic. Instead, we’re reading job adverts for elves. Yes, Christmas Elves.
We cannot cope.
Rathwood in county Carlow runs a Santa Train each year and is hoping to employ 150 elves by December to entertain its expected 50,000 guests.
According to the company, the annual recruitment drive has grown immensely since 2005 when just 10 elves were required.
And if you think this is just very early preparations, you’re wrong. Bookings to take the Santa Train open on Monday – the first day of September.
“As usual the most sought after times are expected to be sold out in days,” Rathwood claims.
Fancy bring joy and being an elf this December? The positions that need filling include Santa’s personal helpers, Mrs Claus’s personal assistant, storytelling elves, woodlands elves, teacher elves and postman elves.
Applicants will have to interact with both parents and children, and be good with animals. The ideal applicant will also have theatrical skills and bubbly, enthusiastic mannerisms. Most importantly though, they need to LOVE Christmas.
Oh, and they must know their elfabet.
The deadline for applications is 30 September and more details are available here.
