Here's how these Repeal jumpers sold out in one day and became an Irish phenomenon

Plus, how you can get your mitts on one next weekend.

OVER THE PAST few days, one article of clothing has completely dominated Irish Twitter and Irish Instagram — a simple black sweatshirt with the word ‘REPEAL’ emblazoned on it.

It’s all part of Repeal Project, a clothing project set up by Anna Cosgrave, which aims to raise money for the Abortion Rights Campaign and start a discussion about “the need and want for free, safe and legal access to abortion in Ireland.”

The jumpers, which retail for €25, went on sale online and in Temple Bar’s Indigo & Cloth last week. (Proceeds from each sale go to Abortion Rights Campaign while ‘surplus money’ goes into production and postage. Cosgrave told DailyEdge.ie that finances would be made transparent at the end of this month.)

Such was the appetite for the jumpers that the pop-up sold out in one day, taking in €10,000 in one day.

People queued in the pouring rain…

And proudly shared photos of themselves wearing them.

They were out in force at Castlepalooza…

(And we’re willing to bet there’ll be a few at Beyoncé on Saturday.)

In short, people are just happy to play their part in raising awareness and agitating for a referendum on the Eighth Amendment, which acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and equates it with the mother’s right to life.

The next stop for Repeal Project? They will be selling jumpers at Longitude Festival next weekend at the Abortion Rights Campaign stand.

We are delighted to be collaborating with Rachel Prendergast Spollen from ARC on this, she has made this happen. Photo credit to the amazing @ruthlessimagery , who we are delighted to have working with us on our project. Shout out to all the supporters repping down at @castlepalooza . Also if you have friends going and you want a jumper (this is slightly gas) but tell them to get you one rather than buying online. Pop-up sales are more cost and time effective for our project. Thanks so much for the support thus far, all helping towards fundraising for our partner organisation @freesafelegal and giving this cause visibility , make it seen this problem that needs to be heard. We also look forward to our working media partnership with @herdotie repealproject repealproject

Those who want a jumper are encouraged to try buy at pop-ups where possible. Per the campaign:

Also if you have friends going and you want a jumper (this is slightly gas) but tell them to get you one rather than buying online. Pop-up sales are more cost and time effective for our project.

Additionally, the campaign has announced plans to expand their line and introduce Repeal bomber jackets, tote bags, t-shirts and beanies.
