REY, THE PROTAGONIST of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will be included in a new edition of Star Wars Monopoly after a little girl’s heartbroken letter went viral.
Many fans were unhappy that the current edition of the game only features Luke Skywalker, Finn, Kylo Ren and Darth Vader (who doesn’t appear in the film) as playable characters – they tweeted their discontent using the popular hashtag #WheresRey:
Author Carrie Goldman’s eight-year-old daughter Annie Rose was particularly upset about the omission of Rey, and penned a letter of complaint to Hasbro.
Without her, THERE IS NO FORCE AWAKENS! Besides, boys and girls need to see women can be as strong as men!
Goldman shared the letter on Twitter, where it was retweeted and shared thousands of times – Hasbro initially responded to the complaints by saying that because the game was released in September, Rey was not included to “avoid revealing a key plot line”.
Fans argued that if that was the case, Rey and Daisy Ridley might as well have not been included in any of the promotional materials for the film:
Earlier today, Hasbro released a statement saying Rey would be included in a future edition of the game:
We love the passion fans have for Rey, and are happy to announce that we will be making a running change to include her in the Monopoly: Star Wars Game available later this year.
Congratulations, Annie-Rose!
