FORGET LOVE/HATE, forget Charlie, last night Room to Improve became the nation’s Sunday night fear accompaniment.
And boy oh boy were you gunning for it.
Avril and Andrew Wilson-Rankin had bought a disused commercial building in Dun Laoghaire, and were planning on turning it into their dream home.
At the start of the show they were living in a.. er… cosy space in a shed at the bottom of Andrew’s parent’s garden. So understandably they were eager to get a space of their own after managing to save €90k.
They dropped €105k on the property in total, and then called in architect Dermot Bannon to attempt to turn this into a home.
Here’s what you made of the whole rigmarole…
Not very optimistic from the get go
Ouch :(
Double ouch :(
Triple ouch :(
The bean tin lampshades didn’t go down very well
While the plan for a ‘craft room’ raised some eyebrows
The ceiling came in for flack
And Dermot didn’t escape the harsh tongues
Neither did the drains, or the council
In the end though, it looked lovely and you were satisfied. Kind of
€370k. For a house in Dun Laoghaire. In fairness, like.
