Here's the gritty crime drama RTÉ is hoping will replace Love/Hate

Sunday nights, here we come.

RTE RTE

RTÉ HAS unveiled a new Sunday night drama, which it hopes will fill the gap in its autumn schedule left by the end of Love/Hate last year.

Clean Break is a crime drama starring Adam Fergus (second from right) as Frank Mallon, a car dealer in Wexford town who is on the ropes financially.

In a last-ditch bid to escape his creditors, Frank attempts to stage a tiger raid on his local bank – kidnapping the manager’s family. Needless to say, it goes badly wrong.

Like Love/Hate, the four-part show is being produced by Octagon Films. Like Love/Hate, it will air on Sunday nights.

It has been written by Wexford playwright Billy Roche, and is directed by Bafta winner Damien O’Donnell – best known for East is East and Inside I’m Dancing – and Scottish filmmaker Gillies Mackinnon. Mackinnon has previously directed movies including Hideous Kinky and WW1 epic Regeneration.

Press materials describe Clean Break as “a universal tale of community, love and greed”.

Who will be its Nidge? Only time will tell.

This piece has been updated to reflect the fact that the writer momentarily forgot the difference between right and left. Sorry Adam Fergus.
