She’s an Australian actress, model and DJ who stars as Stella Carlin in the third series of OITNB.

She’s a lesbian and identifies as genderfluid, telling The Guardian last year that she underwent several “reincarnations” growing up, presenting as both masculine and feminine.

She told Elle earlier this month that she’s:

… not a guy; I definitely don’t feel like a woman, but obviously I was born one. So I’m somewhere in the middle, which – in my perfect imagination – is like having the best of both sexes.

She says prefers to use female pronouns.

Her striking looks have landed her various modelling contracts and her acting prowess has led her to this role as a new Piper love interest/antagonist on Orange is the New Black, and a horde of new fans.

However, the flippancy of the phrase ‘to turn gay’ is being called into question on social media.
