IT ALL STARTED with Girls writer and producer Jenni Konner and this tweet:

Finding out the correct pronunciation of Saoirse Ronan just now has been very upsetting.

It’s understandable, you know? If you look the name written down, and imagine you’ve never heard it spoken out loud…

… you might pronounce it something like:

Say-oh-arse.

And sure who could blame you?

Konner meanwhile had been thinking somewhere along the lines of:
