Sarah Jessica Parker thinks Kim Cattrall's catfight claims are ruining SATC's legacy

She’s still denying the drama.

IN FEBRUARY OF this year, Kim Cattrall appeared to confirm rumours which had dogged the relationship she shared with Sex and the City co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, for more than a decade.

Posting an explosive message on Instagram, Kim absolutely went for SJP, telling her she was neither her friend nor her family, and she did not need her ‘love or support’ while grieving for her brother.

And, let’s be honest, heads rolled.

It looked like the supposed tension, which had been extensively reported on during Sex and the City’s six-year run and its two subsequent films, hadn’t actually been manufactured by media outlets, but was in fact grounded in reality.

Christ, it was the answer Sex and the City fans had been looking for since the show’s debut in 1998.

And as far as fans were concerned, Kim’s post was the last word on the matter, but recent remarks Sarah has made has cast doubt on the validity of Kim’s comments.

Speaking to Vulture this week, Sarah denied accusations of unrest and exclusion among the cast.

I’d just like to remind everybody that there is no catfight. I have never uttered an unkind, unsupportive, unfriendly word, so I would love to redefine it.  I also want to remind everybody that there were four women on the set and I spent equal time with all of them, so this was not a set with two women who didn’t get along.

Turning her attention to Kim’s decision not to take part in a third SATC movie, Sarah admitted disappointment and made no apology for it.

I’ve always held Kim’s work in high regard and always appreciative of her contributions. If she chooses not to do the third movie, there’s not a lot I can do to change her mind and we must respect it. That’s the only thing I’ve ever said about it, you know?

53-year-old Sarah reiterated her stance throughout the interview, insisting that all had been well during the show’s run on HBO.

But, no, there is no catfight, there never has been a catfight. I’ve never fought with someone publicly in my life, nor would I. And I spent time with all of the women on the set. People need to recall that it wasn’t just two women on the set fighting because that just never happened.

And Sarah definitely isn’t here for any drama that casts a shadow over the show’s legacy.

In fact, it sounds like she wishes Kim would just pipe down… despite her insistence that her former co-star has the right to speak her mind.

We are enormously proud of what we got to do and I don’t want someone sharing thoughts publicly, which is Kim’s right to do and that is what it is, but we spent 10, 12 years of our life doing something that I really loved and I feel privileged to be part of and I don’t want this to eclipse it or change its experience for that audience that was so good to us for so long.

Good luck with that, SJP.
