Sherlock fans attempt world record for most people dressed as Holmes in one place
HUNDREDS OF SHERLOCK fans donned deerstalkers and gathered at University College London yesterday morning to honour star Benedict Cumberbatch’s birthday.
But the get-together wasn’t just to celebrate Benedict turning 38 – they also attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people dressed as Sherlock Holmes in the one place.

The fans eschewed modern Sherlock’s signature long coat and curly mop top in favour of the more traditional Holmes look.
In fact, the criteria for the record was very strict – each participant had to be wearing a cape, pipe, deerstalker hat and magnifying glass for the record to count.

According to the Press Association, 113 fans attended the gathering, but they’ll have to wait a little while before they get confirmation of their world record.
Here they are with a birthday message for Benedict:
The event also raised funds for the Undershaw Preservation Trust, which is working to restore Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s former home.
We daresay Benedict will be very pleased at the gesture.
