EARLIER THIS YEAR, we told you about two Sligo ice cream makers who had just won prestigious gelato awards in Italy.
Well, now one of them has followed it up with even more success.
Michael O’Dowd, who runs Gelati in Enniscrone, was invited to enter the Mostra Del Gelato competition in Longarone, Italy last week – one of the oldest ice cream competitions in the world.
And he took home the award for the ‘Best Oreo Gelato’ in 2016 in the global event
And he also came second in the ‘Overall Masters’ ranking – the pinnacle of the awards
Gelati is known for its inventive ice cream and quality flavours in the seaside town of Enniscrone
And Michael creates new flavours from scratch all the time – like this peanut butter and jelly
And this strawberry swiss roll creation
Michael told DailyEdge.ie that the Masters award is very important in the industry:
The masters prize is a huge honour among gelato makers in Italy and every Gelateria in the world would love to have an award from this event more so than any other exhibition in the world.
Not a bad week’s work for the Sligo ice cream maker
And well deserved too.
