JUST STOP THE world and let us off. Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have reportedly split up after three months of dating.

After a whirlwind publicity – sorry – romantic tour of the world, including meeting both sets of parents, sitting on many rocks, and multiple instances of hand-kissing, the Hiddleswift dream is over.

The news was broken by Us Weekly last night – and according to them, it was Swift who called the whole thing off. A source told the magazine:

She was the one to put the brakes on the relationship. Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with. Taylor knew the backlash that comes with public displays of affection but Tom didn’t listen to her concerns when she brought them up.

However, The Sun reports that Taylor was the one who wanted the public relationship, and Tom “simply played along to keep her happy”.

Hiddleston is now “embarrassed” about the breakup. Well, he was the one wearing the ‘I <3 TS’ vest, wasn’t he?

The veracity of the relationship was questioned from the moment it was revealed in July, with some suggesting it might be part of a Swiftian music video.

Hiddleston had to state it was “not a publicity stunt” in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter - so the reaction to the breakup on Twitter has been typically cynical:

Swift’s ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris (who she was still dating a mere two weeks before meeting Hiddleston) has yet to drop his inevitable subtweet. We’ll keep you posted.
