Taylor Swift wrote an open letter to Apple... and Apple changed its music service

A swift victory.

APPLE HAVE HAD a change of heart after Taylor Swift penned them an open letter on Tumblr condemning their decision to withhold royalties for song streamed during a trial period on their new Apple Music service.

Swift said she would withhold her 1989 album and called the decision ‘shocking and disappointing’ that rights holders would see no cash for the trial three-months of the tech giant’s new streaming service.

It seems she had QUITE the influence.

Senior Vice President of software and services Eddy Cue tweeted yesterday doing a U-turn on the policy.

Swift’s Tumblr post went viral yesterday when she wrote about her disappointment in the new service, having previously removed all her music from streaming service Spotify.

She wrote:

I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.
These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.

Independent labels also expressed their concerns with the pricing model.

She later took to Twitter to say she was ‘elated’ after the decision.

Another success in the bag for Tay Tay. Now… what’s next…
