In fact, our national obsession with Penneys is so intense that, “Thanks, Penneys,” is practically an Irish proverb at this point.

So it was kind of inevitable that someone would start a blog dedicated to Penneys at some point.

Enter Thanks Hun Penneys, an Instagram/Facebook/blog that documents new arrivals into Penneys and all the best bargains on offer.

It has over 22,000 followers on Instagram and is slowly but surely building a profile on Facebook as well.

For months, the genius behind Thanks Hun Penneys chose to remain anonymous, but this week, she decided to finally reveal her identity.

Meet Lena, the mother-of-one from Dublin behind Thanks Hun Penneys.

Lena told DailyEdge.ie that she chose to remain anonymous at first as she was a “bit embarrassed” and worried that she’d “look stupid”.

A lot of the bloggers with a big following look like and often are models and with so many blogs popping up nowadays, I didn’t think that anyone would care what my opinions were on make up or clothes and that I would look stupid.

But she decided to come clean after seeing the success of the blog and finding that the anonymity was inhibiting her. “It was proving more difficult to take pictures of certain things I was reviewing or posting about,” she said.

So, how did Thanks Hun Penneys become a thing? Lena says she started the blog while she was on maternity leave and had a little extra time on her hands for browsing Penneys.

I was on my own a lot, so I spent a lot of time roaming the shops during my son’s nap time or trying to get him asleep so I could get a coffee in peace for some head space.

It’s hard to do that much roaming and no shopping but I found myself finding some great bargains. I just shared them on Instagram thinking others might like them too.

She says she’s always been a big fan of Penneys and notes that you’d be hard pressed to find a woman in Ireland who isn’t. (Ain’t that the truth?)

Whether they’re going in for a pair of knickers or coming out with their arms falling off, it’s something everyone is familiar with.

But nonetheless, she’s still surprised at how it’s taken off.

I was delighted with a couple of thousand followers but it has grown from a couple of hundred to over 20,000 in 6 months which is crazy.

Simple photos with details of how much the product costs, what colour(s) it comes in and where it was spotted.

Sure, it’s just like having someone shop in Penneys for you.

She also shares photos of her Penneys hauls from time to time.

And is always all over the latest must-have items.

Remember the coveted hooded blanket that was all the rage a few months ago?

Thanks Hun Penneys was on it. 

Lena, who works full-time in an office unrelated to fashion or beauty, started a blog after she noticed a need for lengthier product reviews. She hopes to devote more time to it in 2017 and expand her Thanks Hun Penneys empire.

I want to improve the quality and content of my page and get working with some big brands and have the opportunity to have more time to focus on it. Obviously, I would love to be able to do it full time or make a living from it but only time will tell…
