8 memories for anyone celebrating The Frames this weekend
Instagram Instagram
TONIGHT THE FRAMES play the first of two sold out Dublin shows at the Iveagh Gardens to celebrate 25 years of the band.
With ten albums, thousands of gigs, a few drummers and one Oscar under their belt, Glen Hansard and co have quite the back catalogue of beloved tunes to choose from.
Here’s a look back at some memories through the years to get you in the mood.
The Frames’ first ticketed show
According to violinist Colm Mac Con Iomaire the Clifden Country Blues Fest was the Frames first ever ticketed show. And here’s that ticket.

That Witness 2001 gig
In 2001 The Frames headlined the Rising Tent at the Witness Festival in Fairyhouse, the precursor to Oxegen.

Dublin’s Vicar Street only holds a couple of thousand people, and while The Frames played several nights there in November 2002 for the recording their live album Set List, there are probably at least double the number who claim to have been there.
Other Voices: Songs From A Room
Glen Hansard was the first host of Other Voices, and the band featured on the first episode ever of the RTÉ music series recorded in a tiny church in Dingle every September.
Those Electric Picnic 2006 gigs
The Frames played not one, but two sets at the 2006 Electric Picnic. The first in The Electric Arena, and the second the next evening on the Big Tree Stage. Mic Christopher’s Heyday was a favourite, as always:
Nic Christopher tribute, Vicar Street 2011
The November 2011 Vicar Street gig marked 10 years since the band’s dear friend Mic Christopher (of The Mary Janes) had met an untimely death. Mundy, Jerry Fish, The Coronas and Paddy Casey were all there to lend a hand.

Whelan’s 25th anniversary gig
Last summer it was announced at the last minute that The Frames were to play a special one-off gig in their old haunt Whelan’s to help the venue celebrate 25 years.
Not only did they bring the house down, they paid for a free bar for everyone for the night.
Whoops!
