EVER SINCE THOMAS Barr entered our hearts, winning his 400m semi-final in Rio on Tuesday, he’s been gaining huge swathes of our affections, bit by bit.

First, there was that literal winning smile:

Barr’s mam and dad have been charming people over in Rio, while his sister Jessie was in tears in an RTÉ studio today, watching her little brother race in an Olympic final:
