Tom Petty's daughter paid a lovely tribute to her 'American icon' dad
TOM PETTY’S DAUGHTER Kimberly Violette is sharing musical memories she had with her dad following the death of the singer.
Kimberly, who has been updating his Instagram after his hospitalisation for a heart attack, started sharing archive images of her musician father, paying tribute to him with a moving post about the impact his music has had on her.
“My dad had matching stage clothes made for me as a kid this jacket still fits me,” she captioned the above post. “Made by Glen Palmer from Granny Takes A Trip – When I got the call to come to the hospital I grabbed this jacket and I’m still wearing it.”
On his legacy, she said:
“Tom Petty is an American Icon because his heart has always put human rights first. We are one. I love you dad, your songs are dreams manifested.”
After initially being reported by US media as having died, before later reports said he was “clinging to life”, the news that Petty had died following a cardiac arrest was confirmed in the early hours this morning.
“He died peacefully at 20:40 Pacific time (03:40 GMT Tuesday) surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends,” said his long-time manager Tony Dimitriades.
