Tommy Ramone, the last of the Ramones, dies aged 62

TOMMY RAMONE, THE last surviving original member of seminal punk band the Ramones, has died at the age of 62.

Business associate Dave Frey, who works for Ramones Productions and Silent Partner Management, said Ramone’s wife called to tell him he died yesterday.

Drummer Tommy co-founded the Ramones in 1974 in New York along with singer Joey Ramone, bassist DeeDee Ramone and guitarist Johnny Ramone.

All four band members had different last names, but took the common name Ramone.

The band influenced a generation of rockers, and songs including I Wanna Be Sedated and Blitzkrieg Bop earned them an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Ramone was born in Hungary and immigrated to New York with his family, where he grew up.

He played drums for the band from 1974 to 1978, and co-produced their first three albums.
