12 memories anyone who grew up going to Tramore will recognise

The Alton Towers of the south-east.

1. Once the evenings started getting longer, you would beg your parents to bring you out to the amusements in Tramore

And keep a stash of £1 and £2 coins for The Big Day Out.

2. The day your parents finally relented and brought you out was cause for celebration

3. Even if they made you go for a big long walk on the beach first

“CAN’T WE GO ON THE AMUSEMENTS YET?”

4. During which you inevitably wound up gawking at all the hardy surfers in the water

“Fair play to them. Wouldn’t be for me now.”

5. And ended up nearly getting blown away on the sand dunes

6. But then came the moment you were waiting for all day…

TIME TO GO ON THE AMUSEMENTS!

7. The exhilaration of going on this while something like Saturday Night by Whigfield blares across the park

I’VE NEVER FELT SO ALIVE.

8. Your parents wouldn’t let you go on the more hair-raising rides… so you just stood and watched in awe from below

“Wow.”

9. The most thrilling part of the day? Getting to go on the Waltzers.

Even if you felt like you might do a little sick afterwards.

10. The day wasn’t complete if you didn’t get to spend what seemed like a small fortune on the slot machines

Although in reality, it was probably £1.50 in coppers.

11. An afternoon of crazy golf would make you think you should pursue a career as a professional golfer

“I’m really good at this.”

12. The best part of the day, though? Stopping into Doolys and eating your chips in the car

Sea air and vinegary chips? Pure bliss.
