GOGGLEBOX IRELAND been on our screens over a month now, and delighting us no end. Ahead of tonight’s episode, TV3 has shared a few behind the scenes tidbits:
1. Most of the families were found by casting teams on the street
While there were call-outs on the radio and in newspapers, a casting team travelled all around Ireland calling into shops, pubs, events and clubs. See, it could have been you!
2. And a lot of them had to be really persuaded to do it
And aren’t we all very glad that they did?
3. Where did they find the Tully twins at all?
Fergal and Neal agreed to appear on the show after being approached at the Virginia Show in Cavan. Of course.
4. And the lovely Ryan family from Limerick?
They were found at an antique fair in Birr. The more you know.
5. And the legends that are Angela and Eileen?
They were discovered at the Le Cheile Retirement Club in Castleknock. Go on ladies!
6. Gogglebox Ireland features more pets than any other country
There are over 30 versions of Gogglebox, but we have the most – nine dogs and one cat (Bibby, the divil who’s always up on Tracie’s kitchen counter).
7. Eileen’s Michael Tea Higgins cosy has been in all the episodes except one
He was on “official state business”, apparently. Gotcha. (Find out how to get your own Michael Tea Higgins here).
8. The families can’t do any media interviews while doing the show
So don’t expect any tell-alls for the time being.
9. The episodes are filmed over the week previous to their airing
Only programmes broadcast in the last seven days can feature, to keep everything nice and up to date.
10. And they say there are about 90 cups of tea consumed per family per episode
Along with seven packets of ginger nut biscuits. No word on how many of these are set upon the Tully twins’ couch-table.
Catch the next episode of Gogglebox Ireland on TV3 tonight at 9.30pm.
