THE TWENTY ONE club on D’olier Street is gone, but not forgotten.
If you ever frequented the D’Olier Street club, you’ll look back fondly on…
1. This happening every Monday
Racing to get into the club and past the queue before the €1 entry deadline of 11pm was the biggest graft you put in all year.
2. Getting one of the bed seats was the best
Even if you soon realised that it was actually pretty uncomfortable.
3. The toilet attendants were the soundest in Dublin
Yes, how could any regulars ever forget the bond they had with the friendly souls in the toilet? The things they must have put up with.
4. The queue was constantly all the way down to Q Bar
…so if you got rejected there, you could easily join on.
5. Everyone has a story of Rihanna and Chris Brown and meeting them there
Let’s not forget that this place was celeb central. The likes of Will Ferrell, The Inbetweeners, Akon, Neyo and The Prodigy all did appearances here. Perhaps the biggest though, was when Chris Brown showed up to do a PA, with the lesser known Rihanna by his side.
MISS YOU TWENTY ONES.
6. Those boxes on the dancefloor were where you REALLY wanted to dance
But if it was a club night, they were usually full of women dancing with snakes around their neck, or shot girls doing some kind of drink bonanza.
7. Going downstairs felt a bit like you were walking into doom
Those stairs were so STEEP, and you with your good heels on.
8. Marching back up the steps to the tiniest smoking area known to man
Can we not just go around the barrier, kind security man?
9. TWAT on Thursday
Thursdays With a Twist. Well played, xxi.
10. VK and green shots were pretty much all anyone drank
11. The dancefloor was constantly packed
No one goes to xxi to stay seated.
And they played this song, EVERY TIME.
