Here's why people on Twitter are sharing photos of themselves with tampons

*sounds the social media awareness campaign klaxon*

JUST AS YOU did with the ice bucket challenge, you might start to see a trend happening on your various social media feeds – this time, people taking selfies with tampons.

What’s it all about, though? Well, the campaign wants to break the stigma of periods because it’s 2015 and some people are still too embarrassed to talk about them:

It was put together by @PlanUK, and they are also concerned that the cost of tampons is constantly rising, and that’s not fair for women all over the world to have to deal with.

So, the result was #JustATampon.

The selfie campaign has really taken off since yesterday

With even Carol Smillie pitching in

The main message being STAY CALM, everyone, it’s not a big deal

And other celebrities were getting creative with it

A few of the tweets brought out some predictable reactions though

Which is kind of the whole point of the awareness campaign in the first place

Everyone, it’s #JustATampon. We’ll all be fine if we talk about periods.
