A COUPLE OF weeks ago, Uma Thurman was asked about the number of women speaking out against sexual harassment in Hollywood during a red carpet interview for he new play called The Parisian Woman in New York.
It went under the radar at the time, but thanks to journalist Yashar Ali yesterday, Uma’s short, powerful response has blown up overnight.
It was controlled, but you can just tell the rage bubbling underneath the surface
Every movie Thurman made with Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction and the two Kill Bills) were distributed by Harvey Weinstein-run companies – so the interviewer asked her what she thought of those coming forward and the epidemic of inappropriate behaviour in Hollywood.
She commended the women who have spoken out on the scandal so far, then said:
“I don’t have a tidy soundbite for you because I’ve learned that I’m not a child. I’ve learned that when I’ve spoken in anger, I usually regret the way that I express myself.”
“So, I’ve been waiting to feel less angry and when I’m ready I’ll say what I’ve got to say.”
It wasn’t just what she said, but the way she said it
Since Yashar Ali’s tweet – which has been retweeted just under 50,000 times – people are applauding Thurman’s justified anger
And her decision to wait to be able to “say what she has to say”
*standing ovation*
It’s the perfect combination in one answer
A must-watch
